Our Story

The Road

Impact 5:16 began to take root in our hearts after traveling to Uganda in 2009 and 2010. Walking along a dusty red African road in the sweltering sun lifting praises up to our Lord, we felt our hearts burning within us (Luke 24:32). We Americans had tasted His glory. We walked in His Holy Presence! This was commonplace for our Ugandan believers, but not for us. It seemed that they lived, moved, and breathed in Him effortlessly. Our hearts were beautifully ruined and changed forever.

Water

Flying back home, the Lord spoke to us and said, “My people are being destroyed because they don’t know me” (Hosea 4:6). “So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:16). Over the next few months, these verses would not leave our minds. God in effect was telling us that the Church (his body of believers) was neither providing refreshment for the spiritually weary, nor healing for the spiritually sick. This church was simply ineffective and therefore, distasteful to the Lord. This revealed to us the problem of why Christ would prefer the church to be “hot” or “cold” rather than “lukewarm.”

Go

It was difficult to rid our minds of the picture of Jesus lifting to his lips a cup of what He anticipates to be a refreshing drink, only to regurgitate it in disgust. Jesus spoke to our hearts and asked us to keep our hearts burning with passion to know Him and make Him known (Hosea 4:6). He was telling us that when He looked upon the American body of believers, He saw our lack of zeal, our indifference toward the needs of others, and our blasé response to His beauty. He was calling us to join Him in His work to build a body of bold people, for His glory, that would carry out His Great Commission to the nations.

We believe the Great Commission is one of the most significant passages in the Bible. It's the last recorded personal instruction given by Jesus to His disciples and it's a special calling to His followers to take specific action while on this earth.

Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'

Matthew 28:18-20
